Sometimes I have to repeat the correct word over and over again several times to get it to be recognized. It’s awful. No way to report bugs/isuues I cringe every time there’s an update for this app because I don’t know what feature they’re going to break because they didn’t test well enough. And if you find a problem, there’s no easy way to report it or no way at all to report it. I also begin to question their linguistics. They ask you for a translation and they want you to use an English word in Italian when a perfectly good Italian word exists. Or they ask you to translate or use a word that you haven’t learned yet. How does that reinforce good language learning behavior? Very frustrated. App takes 3-5+ secs to do speech recognition. In timed events it makes it impossible to complete. And ads last 60+ seconds. You have to watch 3 or more to earn enough energy to do a lesson. If you’re in a bonus period it’s using 3+ mins of your limited bonus time.

   horrible app. the energy bar is really annoying and they keep forcing super on you which for such a big company they shouldn't even have to do also the words are almost USELESS do not ise this bad app

   Manipulators. They will try to scam you with the flash card voice detection so that you have to pay for more time. I already have the max plan and considering getting an attorney since they said everything is non refundable

   subscription. I paid for a subscription, but the app still keeps pushing the Family plan. You can’t dismiss the popup without closing the app. It’s extremely annoying. I’m looking for an alternative!

   Removing grammar tips and lessons is stupid. It has got to be the single stupidest decision Duolingo ever made. Completely senseless. If they think immersion is better? FINE. Make the grammar tips optional then. DUH. But guess what? You can never learn Latin in an immersive fashion, you complete and total breathtaking idiots. It’s a DEAD language. Do you understand how stupid this is of you? WHY FORCE IMMERSION IN A DEAD LANGUAGE!?!?!? Every day America gets a little bit dumber and it is so depressing

   Broken katakana (fixed/removed). I’m stuck progressing Japanese because after I have to use a dash in ko-to it no longer converts my letters to hiragana and despite “getting it wrong” a few times AND REPORTING IT AS A PROBLEM it keeps asking me to answer the question. It need to stop asking the same question after you report a problem. It’s absolutely infuriating. It just changes the suggested characters to “type - for -“ yeah I know Duolingo I already did that. Update: the lesson is not asking me to type out anything any more so I’m not stuck any more but I don’t know if they fixed the issue or just disabled typing in Japanese and or Katakana. Second update. It happened again. After typing a word in katakana and then typing “wa” it no longer translates typed letters to hiragana. Fortunately this time i was able to use the talk to text but as i was somewhere I could not talk i was not able to talk I could not do it until I left.

   Slop. This is the worst experiences I’ve ever experienced and I hate that you lose 1000 elo if you lose in a chess game.but don’t get me started with these reviews of the lessons and so bad and don’t learn from it.(just a waste of time)

   Worst app. Be honest girls this game is trash like it didn’t help me I had a 100 day streak and then after I got to 101 it reset and I did that day worst app ever

    It is just buggy. I did a lesson yesterday and it went up but the next day it went away??? And also the capture craze lesson in the last section of chess is nearly impossible cause if you go one point behind it you don’t complete the lesson.

    Stole my money. I applied for the free trial to see what it was like and then I canceled it even before the free trial ended. But then a week later I saw in my bank account $149 taken out of my account by Duolingo and I wasn’t even playing Duolingo anymore.

    Very poorly designed. Fix your app so I don’t have to keep switching between keyboards in order to keep AutoCorrect from costing me an excessive amount of time trying to type in the answers

    The good reviews must be fake. - June 2026: Stop making us type during Rapid Review because it takes too much time to type. I always get to the very last lesson and then my time runs out because I spent too much time typing! - NOVEMBER 2025 : STOP TRICKING ME INTO SPENDING MY GEMS TO FREEZE MY STREAK WHEN I NEVER ENDED ME STREAK! - MAY 20, 2025 : About to switch to AI so they can help destroy the planet. - SEPTEMBER 12 2024 : Now it seems you can only buy gems to use for freezes, you can’t just earn them anymore. - AUGUST 15 2024 : old Units are only teaching me new things instead of allowing me to review the old stuff. - APRIL 2 2024 : for the second time in 6 months, I’ve had to use 1800 gems to fix my streak freeze when I definitely used the app the previous day. GIVE ME MY 3600 GEMS BACK. They are too expensive to buy. If you look at the prices, it’s $10 for 3000 gems. PLEASE EITHER GIVE MY 3600 GEMS BACK OR CREDIT MY ACCOUNT WITH THE AMOUNT 3600 GEMS IS WORTH. - SEPTEMBER 5th 2023 : It didn’t add twenty points for finishing a listening exercise. Also, I vastly preferred the layout before and I know I’m not the only one because I’ve seen a petition to bring the old layout back. I am literally only here for High Valyrian. If I could learn it anywhere else, I would. - AUGUST 2023 Part 2 : The app lost my streak (I know I played yesterday) and I had to pay 200 gems to keep my 850+ day streak. - AUGUST 2023 Part 1 : Turn Off Competitiveness & Lower Monthly Quest Make it so we can turn off the leaderboard and most of the competitive functions so I can focus on just learning and not stress about being knocked down a level. Same with Monthly Quests. They started increasing by 10 every month; starting at 30, then last month it was 40, and this month (August) it’s 50‽ That just makes me want to finish the quests and not worry about learning. It really takes the fun out of it for me and I only do the reviews just to get the points to stay on the leaderboard, instead of actually learning anything new.

I will never renew my Super subscription with duolingo and wish I could get a refund honestly. events should be fairly distributed to everyone, yet you’re rolling out the cup event suits “in waves”. I get alerts daily to “continue my streak to start the event” but never do. you guys are just stringing people along.

    Going downhill fast. I loved this app so much that I have a streak of over 2350 days. It has changed so much that I am seriously considering deleting it now. They are no longer interested in people learning Spanish. For years there were NO ads. Now there are two between lessons. They are pushing hard to sell one of the pay versions. There are now many errors in the lessons. It is really sad. I don’t recommend it anymore. I used to recommend it a lot.

    Overloaded with pointless, annoying animations. A lesson that should take 3 minutes requires watching an additional 3 minutes of cartoon slop

    Price gouging?. I’ve been a long time Duolingo user and it’s really disappointing that you can’t do more than one lesson a day without buying more energy. Unless you want to spend $80 a year for lessons, you’re better off using Google Translate to learn a language because it’s actually free and each lesson is a regurgitation of 4 different words too so you won’t be learning much unless you upgrade to super. And they offer it to you through an unskippable ad after every single lesson. Truly a waste of time.

    Get the hearts back. The new energy system is nuts. You should be rewarded for correct answers, instead you are loosing energy with each answer. And 25 isn’t even enough for two lectures in a row 🤯 How are you supposed to learn a new language if you can’t even repeat one lecture

    Graphics Concern. There are so many good things about Duolingo (language lessons, math, chess). The graphics of Oscar are suggestive in unnecessary ways. Nobody needs to see him wearing a towel. Recently, they portrayed Oscar bare-chested with a “continue” button to push in his lower abdomen. That’s sick or just weird. There is another graphic of Oscar riding a dolphin and holding a glass of wine. How does that teach people chess? If you are looking for a site for your children, please be cautious of these questionable graphics. If they would clean up these graphic concerns, I would give a much higher rating.

    Demoralizing and Demotivating. Over a year in! Not a day missed! Making serious progress and continuously on the top of the Diamond league. Then came the app update. I didn’t know anything of the new vocabulary or grammar. I dropped like a rock. I had to delete my progress and start over and I still am having a hard time with it. Taking the foundation I have and getting a real teacher. This app sucks.

    super duolingo is stupid. I think Duolingo imposes super Duolingo too much. Wherever you click, this annoying advertisement is everywhere. It's impossible to take lessons. This discourages the full desire to come here.

    Don’t get the trial. I tried getting the super Duolingo trial and everything just froze up! I can’t learn Japanese anymore because of this. And when I try to uninstall it, it’s still there and I can’t reinstall it.

    Good game but too many adds. So when I got Duolingo it was fun but if you hate adds then don’t play this game because until you buy the Duolingo + you get adds of it after every lesson and it gets annoying to learn sometimes so you have to pay not to get annoyed
