   App update Failure. I went to get my “Word of the Day” from my widget, but it no longer appears, and all I get are ads. I had to visit the actual website just to get the “Word of the Day.” The recent app update has caused this issue for me and my family, who used to post the word and its definition on your board within our home.

   Half a star. Not a full star.. There are few apps in the entire Apple App Library that have failed to the degree this app has. I am convinced the staff stays inebriated on the clock. So, it was a great app a couple years ago. 5 star worthy. Then, out of nowhere, without notice, they got rid of favorites and the archive of words I collected over the course of decades vanished…permanently. Then, if that wasn’t bad enough, they recently updated the app and the Word of the Day is no longer on the homepage and impossible to find. If you do manage to find it, you cannot look into the archive of previously selected words. That function has been removed. I’m just curious…what other reason does this company think its consumers use the app for other than for vocabulary words? Also, I made the mistake of going on the website on my desktop thinking it would have more functionality. There’s no ability to add to favorites on there either…and I have never in my life experienced a website with more ads. I don’t think there is a company that exists that delivers a worse experience than Dictionary.com. The only value this company hangs on is the editorial skills of the person that selects the word of the day. No other website has better selection quality. Otherwise, I would have left completely a long time ago. Any competitor can take your business, I’m just surprised there hasn’t been one yet. I will vibe code one next weekend. You would think such a simple concept would be easy to achieve by alone…let alone with a staff of 40+. What do they do exactly?

   No "Back" Button. Why did they ever get rid of the "back" button in the Thesaurus??? This was my favorite feature to the app. I could search for alternative words. Curiously check one out, and if that didn't fit, go back to the original group of synonyms. Not anymore. I am appalled that this power was taken away from me and I will continue to complain about it until it is fixed.

   Complete trash. Another example of corporate greed monetizing something to death. Horrendous full-screen cartoon ads that run for half a minute when I’m just trying to look a word up. I’d happily pay for a subscription except they removed that feature in order to force more ads down your throat. Good riddance

   Horrible Ads now. Used to love this app. Even paid for premium version to have no ads but they just decided to no longer honor that and just forced ads back into the app. Horrible company/app.

    Indian Givers. I paid $6.99 several years ago for the app which gave me the full benefits for its life. They updated several months back and many were upset. I thought they may correct the issue and they have not. They’ve made a dumb-downed inferior product and enjoy their spoils. Nobody cares about the stupid articles about words or phrases, nobody cares about the games. I can’t even go back to the page I was just on if I look at a synonym. I’d look up a better synonym for the word ‘trash’ but I hate this app.

    Can’t login and save favorites anymore.. I enjoyed this app but since they have recently removed the feature to login and save words, I have to delete the app. It sucks too because if you had an extensive list of words that you practiced, those words are all gone now.

    All of my “favorited” words, gone in an instance.. I’ve had the dictionary app installed for years now, as it’s a very handy app to have as an English major. I’ve had a long list of words that I saved within the app that I particularly liked, and after using it for the first time in a while, I see that every word I’ve saved within the past few years has vanished, an the “favorite word” feature is no more. Years of saving words that I’ve had for papers, essays and all sorts of writings are no more. It really is a shame.

    Ads now?. I purchased an ad free version of the app and when I reached for it recently the app wasn’t working it was broken. So I deleted it then redownloaded. I didn’t notice that there was only one version of the app now that only includes ads…isint that fraudulent? You pay for a service then the business completely removes support for the application you pay for? They also deleted my user account on the paid app with all of my saved words…all of this with no heads up and no refund or anything for users who opted to pay them money for a better user experience. I guess they were making more money from the version of the app with ads so they screwed everyone over who actually cared to support them. 1 star. I’m going to use (and I would urge everyone else who sees this review) to use a different dictionary / thesaurus app. The merriam Webster one looks pretty good. You should use that one instead as it’s from a business that isint using corrupt fraudulent business practices and scams their users for slightly more money.

    Dishonest purchase plan. I bought this app on the apple app store. I paid for the app so that I would no longer see ads. After some time, dictionary.com decided that they no longer liked the 1 time payment plan, and have gone to a monthly billing, and have cancelled my ad free usage. I was told, by their support (in writing), that I could contact Apple for a refund but dictionary.com is refusing to honor my purchase, and refusing to grandfather me in. Completely dishonest of them.. Once something is bought, and paid in full, it's bought. They can't decide that they don't like the situation, and try to charge me more money. Their policy should only apply to new sales.

    What happened to favorites?. I would give this four or five stars, but it looks like they took away the favorites feature (they probably did this a while ago, but I don’t get into it all frequently. But I do like the favorites). I like being able to mark or save words IN THE APP, not have to share them externally. From what I can tell as a good note, it appears that they reduced the ads. But that might just have been this one time I was in it. Please bring back the favorites. Or tell me where that feature is lol

    Ad-Free Purchase Missing. I purchased the ad-free version a few years ago. Please either restore that purchase or issue a refund, as the current version of the app now includes ads despite my upgrade.

    Some improvements…. I recently noticed the widgets are back… this is great news and greatly appreciated. However, you need to bring back the ability to save words, and get rid of ads. Literally, I would pay to have these options back.

    Used to be indispensable but gets worse with each version. Have used this since the earliest version. Used to love it. So disappointed that each successive version seems to stripe away more features while getting more words that return “No results found…” to the point where I need to go to Google if I’m not 100% sure of the spelling. Often sends you to the thesaurus side when you merely want a definition, the definitions seem thinner with each release and there more and more ads. I have a free version but would happily pay for an actual useful Dictionary…moving on after all these years.

    Trash and garbage. This “dictionary” is utter trash and almost completely worthless. I wanted to use it as an alternative to always browsing the internet. But some words literally show up as “no results found” when simply adding suffix “ly”, “ing”…etc This dictionary app is useless. A lot of words I have to look up again on the browser because this app is too stupid to realize they’re actually words. Some words simply don’t show up. What’s hilarious is that they run meaningless and irrelevant ads when looking up a few words. Give me a break. All you want to do is look up a definition and they shove garbage marketing slop down your throats. They do it for the “money” otherwise they can’t run. They might as well because it’s unreliable. Also the audio for each word to understand pronunciation is mediocre.

    Deleting after the app remodel. Idk if I’ve ever wrote an app review but I am/WAS passionate about this one. I’ve read the dictionary daily for 7yrs. I paid extra for ad-free, sentences, etc. I write and loved being able to favorite words into my own curated library to use later when in a block. I love that everything is now free and included… But the fact that I can no longer favorite words is the reason I am looking for an alternative. Years of saved words now in the trash, gone, vanished, bye. Bring this feature back and I’ll consider redownloading.

    Purchased ad free version. I hate ads so for months I have not updated my app. I paid money to not have ads, I would like that to be honored. Additionally I want to save words. Why would you remove that feature?
