Nearly Unusable. While definitions, synonyms & antonyms are ‘Webster’ excellent, getting to them is crippled by a poor voice to text tool and unavoidable advertisements pop-ups and unintuitive clearance of these interruptive ‘blocks’. The reputation of ‘Merriam Webster’ is sadly tarnished by the app. So sad.

Unskipable full page ads.. Full page ads that cannot be skipped.

Forces tracking. I used to use this app all the time for the word of the day to learn a new word every day but unfortunately, I just recently had to delete the app because when I go to click on it to read the definition, it is forcing me to agree to allow you all to track when I don’t want you watching what I’m doing on my device give us an option for yes or no, which it usually does but it does not.
- ★★★★★an update broke a familiar workflow
App Doesn’t Work Now 🥺 😭 ☹️. Same as the last few reviews have said: After the latest update, the app now immediately crashes upon trying to open it. 👀 😞 (And the app IS still compatible with my phone, and is running the latest version.) PLEASE fix this…. 🙏🏻 💝 🥹 💫

App Problem. I haven’t used the app for awhile, but I’ve kept up with all the updates. I just went to open the app, and it repeatedly crashes on startup. I can’t use the app.

Nice Update. Thanks a bunch, guys. Just updated to version 5.9.3, and now the app won't open. IPhone 8, IOS Version 16.7.15 Deleted from phone, then re-downloaded. Still crashes on opening. Still waiting - been 4 days now, and still no fix for what you broke.

App no linger works with new update. No longer open on IOS 26.6.1
- ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions
Unable to sign in. As a paying subscriber for years, the app no longer lets me sign in.

Too many adds. Dictionaries are supposed to be for quick reference. I couldn’t even look up a word without the whole screen going to an add. I waited 10 seconds without an option to skip before jumping to an alternative option
- ★★★★★ads disrupt the experience
Too many ads. It’s a dictionary app for Pete sake. The amount of ads is ridiculous. Didn’t use to be like that but now it’s just too much. Deleting and going else where

Ads?!. Just recently have had to view unskippable ads just to view definitions… deleting this app and downloading a different one now.

Too many adds. It’s a dictionary…I shouldn’t be getting constant pop ups

Use the Website. Full screen pop ups are ridiculous. Pressing the Thesaurus button closes the search / keyboard. The website ads are more tolerable and has a more user friendly UI.

Malware Warning. I was using the app to look up a word. The definition seemed to come up correctly. But I got a popup saying my phone had been hacked by an adult content site, and that I should hit the OK button to bring up the App Store. I knew the warning was bogus, but I hit OK to see what would happen. The App Store seemed to come up for a phone cleanup app. It looked legit, but I was a little suspicious because the developer’s name was written in what appeared to be Chinese. I opened the App Store and saw that it was on the regular screen. I went back to the M-W app and saw that what appeared to be the App Store was actually being run by the app. I closed it out and will not use it. Not here to complain. I just want to warn people.

Super scammy ads. The dictionary is fine, but I stopped using the app because of the scammy ads that try to trick you into thinking your account was hacked.

Ads??. Why the hell does a dictionary have ads now? I'm here to look up a word, not to buy a generator. I understand a few banner ads here and there to help fund the app, but having full-screen pop-up ads in a dictionary is preposterous.
- ★★★★★inaccurate results and incorrect data
PC. This has become politically correct (more like incorrect) by placing a statement above words they deem derogatory. I want real definitions, not your opinion. If it's truly from Webster, this would not be the case. I have actual Webster's dictionaries and none do this.
- ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions
Why does a dictionary need to know so much about me?. In the app description, this app says it directly tracks your purchase history, search history, and several other identifiers. Why does a dictionary/thesaurus, a tool just used to determine similar words and definitions, need so much information about me? Even the paid “ad-free premium” version still seems to track just as much according the App Store page. I’ve arrived at the point where a physical dictionary seems more practical (and safe) than what was supposed to useful, futuristic solution.
- ★★★★★crashes, freezes and errors
Very buggy and rarely works. I always get an “error” message when trying to type is the search bar, rendering the entire app useless. Absolutely ridiculous!

Garbage. Ruined by ads
- ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions
monetization. knowledge should be free, especially if I can get some knowledge from one place for free and have to pay for it in another. Use any other dictionary.
- ★★★★★crashes, freezes and errors
It is both useful and spam-ful. Being able to consult an online dictionary is great. However, after a word is entered, this app sometimes traps the unsuspecting user in a spam freeze, making it impossible to go either forward or back without clicking on a full-screen ad. Even once in the ad, one sometimes has to close the app itself in order to escape.

Too many people. Why are there a bunch of people in here? How about just sticking to words!!!
- ★★★★★subscription and paid restrictions
Trash. It’s like pulling teeth to get results because you’re inundated with garbage ads obscuring the page. Once a word was locked behind a premium subscription I was done.

Sucks Merriam. The dictionary is 1,000 words and I ripped Merriam.
- ★★★★★ads disrupt the experience
Too many pop up ads. Extremely distracting
- ★★★★★ads disrupt the experience
Annoying. After each word I look up, it displays an ad and the little "x" does nothing to close the ad when I'm done looking at the ad. (But the link to the product in the ad magically works.) The app has done this for years so it must be deliberate. The only thing you can do is close the app and restart it which is annoying if you're looking up a couple words at the same time.

Best. This is great for my school

Daily Word is Worthless. I wanted to expand my vocabulary using the daily word, but the daily word, words are nothing that I hear used in conversations, teachings, or lectures. Because that was the expressed reason for downloading the app, I am in installing it!

Way to many FULL SCREEN ADS. I deleted even though I don’t mind the small ads, their ads was very obtrusive, taking up my full screen
