  1. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Nice changes. I like how once I get to a fire you guys made an import limit so I’m screwed on mapping at the moment.

  2. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Paywall & Data Freeze. Very disappointed with recent changes no longer allowing custom maps without a paid subscription & preventing publishers from updating their maps in the Avenza store. This was my favourite mapping app for the back country & it is now unusable.

  3. ★★★★a needed feature is missing

Going to get firefighters/public killed.. Need a better way to enter coordinates that doesn’t autocorrect. Caused massive navigational errors when heading to wildfires. Use any other app for plotting coordinates.

  4. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

No longer free! $$$$. This app started out ok, but kinda clunky for viewing geoPDFs, but pushed by USGS ISFS, BLM, state fish and game depts. and other public sources for geoPDF maps products. Start hitting limits years ago on how many imported pdf maps you could add. More headaches than it was worth to use it much. Now zero map imports allowed without a heavy subscription fee. Moving on to NomadTracks, and informing the public sites of this monetizing policy change.

  5. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Paid service sucks. Having to pay for this app got to make this the worst app ever now. A lot of people used this for fire fighting and now we have to pay the greedy. Wouldn’t recommend downloading.

  6. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Not worth it. Was free to upload custom pdf maps for years, now it’s behind a paywall. It’s time to abandon Avanza. Use FO Maps.

  7. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Download map. The font is so big for an iPhone. I couldn’t download and pay for nap because I couldn’t get to the bottom of the huge font.

  8. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Free Version now nearly worthless. Until a recent update Avenza was my favorite free mapping app. No longer. All you get now is a blue dot on whatever map you open. Nothing more. In my opinion, Gaia GPS is now the far better choice for a free version.

  9. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Scam. I paid 170 bucks for pro and it expired a month later asking me to pay again. The 170 was supposed to cover a whole year and yet it barely covered a month.

  10. ★★★★saving, exporting or sharing the result fails

Do not trust Avenza for long term!. I used Avenza maps for multiple elk and mule deer hunts. Loved the interface very clean tracks and waypoints. BUT!!! I saved vital tracks in, glassing spots, access around pinnacles and bluffs. Days and days of vital information for return trips. All was good for about 5 years. I went to open a map for a Nevada mule deer hunt I drew again but it would not open. When that wouldn’t open I tried all of my maps, none would open.I contacted Avenza and they told me they lost licensing for the maps which is a very common occurrence. Not only would the maps not open, I could not retrieve any of the data as in tracks and waypoints as they were only saved to that map. Very disappointed. Like I said I love the interface but I cannot trust Avenza with anything long term.

  11. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Pay to play….. Free version used to limit users to 3 imported custom maps at a time. Recently they fully removed this feature. I used to pay for subscription when I needed it, but never will again. Poor choices!!

  12. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

New fees are ridiculous. It is disappointing how this app has been free for years for the basics announced behind them very expensive paywall I will use other free apps

  13. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Paywall. After years of allowing custom pdfs on the free version, they put it behind a paywall. Adios Avenza.

  14. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Researcher. You are no longer able to import custom maps without paying an expensive fee

  15. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

👎🏻. Very unhappy with the new Avenza. Unless you pay for the pro you can not share the layers that you make on your maps. H will be finding a new platform to use for work.

  16. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

$35 to import a map. You can no longer import maps without paying $35+

  17. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Get a user base who is happy with a fairly priced solid product and pull the rug out. Making users pay $170 for a pro subscription that’s is basically the same as the $25 subscription we’ve previously been using is a crime. Looking forward to an alternative app.

  18. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Took away free version. Developers of other apps did this and I was hoping Avenza would keep their paired down free version cause it worked so well. No longer, you have to pay to use your own maps, which for the few times I needed to, is not worth it at all

  19. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Not worth paying for. Not worth paying for

  20. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Very disappointed. I had this app for years and I run a cutter at times when I use it to keep track of the land lines I enjoy how I can use the app with my maps I get set from the forester but I can’t now I gotta have a subscription now just to use my free maps

  21. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

This app is no longer free. I’ve been using Avenza for years, mostly during the summer and would import custom maps of places I’d hike, hadn’t reached the 20 map limit, to ensure I don’t get lost. Now, not only do I have to pay to import any amount of maps, but the placed the one I already had in the system as inactive. I used to recommend to everyone but I can’t in good conscience tell others to use an app that cost $35. Just extremely disappointed

  22. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Once-Great. Used it for a long time, sadly Avenza was bought out and now they aren’t even worth the time of day you spent reading this review.

  23. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Glorified PDF viewer. Expected something on par with OnX and was very disappointed.

  24. ★★★★negative experience without a specific reason· unspecific

Hasbeen. This use to have a three map import feature. Our military base produced a map for this feature. After 15 years they suddenly stopped this feature. Now all my location pins are useless. A very sneaky way to scam people.

  25. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Removed custom maps from Free account. I’ve been using custom maps in Avenza for years. I only need them a few times a year, but when I do, it was always incredibly helpful. They’ve now removed the ability to import your own which, while something I need, is not worth $35 a year in subscription fees. I’m now looking for another solution.

  26. ★★★★a needed feature is missing

Huge changes to access overnight. Too big of changes. Meet consumers in the middle!. I’ve loved this app for years. Use it on prescribed burns, during wildfire suppression, out in the field. Making it so free users can’t even import one custom map or drop a single point on basemaps will make this app useless for me. Really sad for this outcome and while I can understand a change was needed, I wish you could find a better middle ground for users.

  27. ★★★★an update broke a familiar workflow

Dang it! My 1 map import is now useless.. Sure wish I had read the reviews before loading latest version. Was there a note about change in version history? Either way this stinky move makes me way unlikely to be forced to upgrade.

  28. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Was great until the paywall. I used this app for years and now I’m the middle of a work project when I need it, you lock everything behind a pay wall. I don’t need a year long subscription for an app that I use maybe once a quarter.

  29. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Absolutely not. You can do more with other services for a lot less money than they currently want. They went from having free limited access to locking down all the maps I previously uploaded as inactive. I was forced to pay what I thought was an annual free while lost in the field just to see my own maps and some of my data had been lost (points I created) only to receive an alert that I only paid for a month. Find another service. This was only okay when it was free. Certainly not good enough for the price they want.

  30. ★★★★subscription and paid restrictions

Never-ending charges to access your own user-made maps. They used to let you purchase maps from the store or make your own (with limited features). Now that users have made their own maps they have placed them all behind a subscription based paywall.
